Return to a Dutch squad seen as top option
Radioshack Team Nissan rider Joost Posthuma has said in an interview with Dutch regional TV station RTV Oost that he would like to leave his current team and return to a team in which he has more personal freedom.
His arguments do not seem inspired by the turmoil of events involving his current team in recent weeks, but seem inspired by a desire to fulfil another role. “I joined Team Leopard in 2011 because I wanted to get experience working in a foreign team, but now I feel ready to join a Dutch team again. That’s not to say that I didn’t feel appreciated, but I’d like to have more chances for my own.”
Posthuma is a strong time trialist, and is an expert at short stage races that contain a such a test. He won several races in his years before joining Team Leopard (now Team Radioshack Nissan Trek), among which the Ruta del Sol in 2009, plus the Tour of Luxembourg and the Driedaagse De Panne, both categorised as hors-category races, in 2008.
“I’m 31 years old now and believe I’m still capable of scoring some great results in my career. But then, I must be granted the opportunity to do so,” he said. It’s well known that Posthuma was assigned a helper’s role at the Luxembourg-licenced team.
Prior to joining the squad a year and a half ago, he was with Rabobank between 2004 and 2010.
