December 1st closing date for sprinter, climber, young rider and overall classifications
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has announced a competition to design the four leaders jerseys for the 2014 Women’s Road World Cup, as the governing body makes changes to the season-long competition. The series will be nine races long next year, up one from the eight of the past two seasons with the addition of the Sparkassen Giro, and new classifications have been added for sprints, climbs and young riders.
“The stars of the UCI Women Road World Cup could soon be wearing bike jerseys designed by you!” the UCI’s competition page exclaims.
When it was introduced in 1998, the Women’s World Cup jersey had a similar design to that used by the men, with a vertical rainbow down its left side. It was changed in 2002, to the current design with a blue top and rainbow details on the chest and shoulders, and has remained constant ever since.
As well as the honour of having the best riders in the women’s peloton wearing their designs, the winning designers of each jersey will be treated to a “World Cup Event invitation,” where they will be transported to one of the nine races, stay three nights in a hotel and receive a jersey signed by the winner.
Entrants must be over 18 years of age, and will have to agree to an enormous list of terms and conditions. In order to make room for the rider’s team sponsors’ logos, all jerseys must have a while 30cm x 10cm space on the front and rear.
Entries should be emailed to the UCI, at jerseycontest@uci.ch, before midnight on December 1st.
