“I know that with hard and dedicated work I can be a great helper to my teammates, but also get some results myself”

Chris Juul JensenPart of the team for the past two years, the young Dane Christopher Juul-Jensen has been confirmed as staying with Team Saxo Tinkoff for an additional two seasons.

The squad, which will be renamed Team Saxo Bank next year after Oleg Tinkov said his bank would withdraw its backing at the end of 2013, is keeping the 24 year old on board.

He’s been steadily building experience while helping the team. While his riding for others has affected his own chances in races, he’s got a welcome payback with a new contract in what is a difficult time for riders.

“In a very tough market I see this deal as a great pat on the shoulder and a confirmation of the team’s trust and belief in me,” he said. “This surely makes me very proud. Personally I also feel I have taken some big steps in my development, especially when it comes to gaining both the physical and mental toughness needed at this level. I look forward to continue this process. I know that with hard and dedicated work I can be a great helper to my teammates, but also get some results myself in the years to come.”

Juul Jensen spent much of his childhood in Ireland, racing for the national team there, but declared for his father’s country of Denmark several years ago.

He turned pro with Bjarne Riis’ team two years ago and has worked hard since then. The team owner endorsed his contribution today, and said that he had little hesitation in keeping him on board.

“To agree on a new deal with Christopher was an easy choice for us. Christopher fits perfectly in the team, he is very well liked by everyone in the organization, he has a great spirit, he is a true worker on the road and already an integral part of our Spring Classic campaign,” he said.

“I have no doubt that he will continue his development and grow into a key aid for his team mates, while also having chances of getting results of his own.”

His best showing thus far in races was second in the 2012 Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen – Koolskamp. He’ll have more chances in the seasons to come, but for now is pleased to remain part of the Saxo Bank family.

“I really feel at home at this team and I like the setup around the riders,” he explained. “So to be able to continue here simply makes me very happy.”
