Despite interest from Lampre and Astana, Leonardo Bertagnolli has decided to remain with Gianni Savio’s Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni team for next season. Next year the team will ride under the name Androni Giocattoli.
Bertagnolli, 31, joined the team just before the start of the Giro d’Italia, winning stage 15 with a solo attack in the final kilometers. The Italian also won a stage at the Brixia Tour where he ended up third overall. He finished second in the GP Citta di Camaiore and third in the Coppa Sabatini.
Bertagnolli’s biggest career win was the 2007 the Clasica San Sebastián while riding for the Liquigas team. He won a stage of the Vuelta a España and the Tour du Limousin in 2005, and the Tour du Haut-Var and a stage in Tirreno-Adriatico in 2006, while on the French Cofidis team.
Androni Giocattoli now has fourteen riders under contract for 2010, with this year’s double Giro stage winner Michele Scarponi and Tour de Langkawi overall winner José Rodolfo Serpa as leaders. The team is set to begin next season in Argentina at the Tour de San Luis.
