Just over a month before the start of 2010, British national hill climb champion and former Cervélo Test Team rider Dan Fleeman is still without a contract.
The 27 year old was hoping to secure a place on a ProTour or Pro Continental team but, with recent talks with two teams coming to nothing, he is now considering racing again at a Continental team level in order to get his career back on track.
Fleeman would do so in the hope that he’d gather enough good results to earn a bigger deal for 2011.
He competed with the An Post Sean Kelly team in 2008, winning the Tour des Pyrénées, finishing seventh in the Tour of Britain, tenth in the Vuelta a Extremadura and thirteenth overall in the Tour of Ireland.
Those results earned him a year deal with the Cervélo team, and the season got off to a solid start with 22nd overall in the Tour de Langkawi and 16th in the GP di Lugano. However shortly after taking 64th in the Tour de Romandie, he crashed and broke the scaphoid bone in his wrist.
He didn’t race again until August and was unable to achieve the necessary results to earn a contract extension with the squad.
Fleeman will now hope to sort out a squad for 2010 and prove what he can do in the sport.
