Iljo Keisse may soon be a Quick Step rider, after talks with the team’s manager, Patrick Lefevere, were quite good on Wednesday. Keisse was kicked of the Topsport Vlaanderen team after his positive doping test at last year’s Six Days in Gent, but the Belgian has been cleared from the accusations in the mean time.
Lefevere would have liked to seal the deal already. “Tuesday we are headed for a training camp in Spain,” he told Het Nieuwsblad.. “I would have liked to take Keisse along, but it won’t happen.
“Iljo is riding the Track World Cup in Colombia. I am expecting that he will receive our papers for a one-year contract before that.”
Keisse is currently riding as an elite without contract for team Saey-Deschacht. He has won the Gent Six Days three times and finished second this year with partner Roger Kluge.
On the road, his 2007 was the highlight so far. Besides winning the Internatie Reningelst race, he finished third in Kuurne – Brussel – Kuurne and seventh in Halle – Ingooigem.
