Ezequiel Mosquera was honored in his home region in Teo, Galicia, this weekend, where a sports pavilion was named after him. With three top five places in the last the Vueltas a España, he was recognized for his athletic achievements by the local government.

The celebration was held in the city hall of Teo, where many of Mosquera’s Xacobeo Galicia teammates were present. Xacobeo Galicia is from the area and quite happy with the achievements of its riders, despite a small budget compared to the top level teams.

The mayor of Teo, Martiño Noriega, is well aware of Mosquera’s successes. “Ezequiel Mosquera is made big by his naturalness and his humility. He is as he is,” Noriega said in his speech, which became quite philosophical. He even cited Berthold Brecht.

“There are those who fight one day and they are good. There are others who fight one year and they are better. There are people who fight many years and they are very good. But there are people who fight all their life: Those are the irreplaceable.”

Sabino Cortizo, president of the Cycling Federation of Galicia and Pedro Alfaro, director of the Foundation of Cycling in Galicia, also gave speeches. They urged Mosquera to continue to race like he has in the recent past.

Mosquera’s name is now prominently shown on one of the walls on the inside of the sports facility.
