Bert Roesems is putting a period at the end of his long cycling career. The 37-year-old Belgian no longer has the motivation needed to compete at the highest level.

“It is finished. It was time to do something else but it has been nice,” he said to Het Nieuwsblad.
“I did my job as a domestique and even won 25 races. Among them Halle-Ingooigem twice, the Nokere Koerse, Denain and stages in the Tour of Belgium, Sweden, Nedersaksen, the Franco-Belge and the Ronde van het Waalse Gewest. Not many Belgian pros can say that.”

Roesems spent the past year racing for the continental Cinelli-Down Under team after racing three years for Silence-Lotto and Relax-Bodysol. He was widely recognized as a strong time trialist who was successful in the shorter stage races.
