Travis Meyer continued the Garmin-Transisions winning streak today by taking victory in the Australian road championships. Just four days after his older brother Cameron took home the time trial title, the 20-year-old snatched up his biggest win to date. David Kemp and Damien Turner rounded out the podium.

“I can’t even believe it actually, it will take a while to sink in,” Meyer said to ozcycling.com after the race.

Meyer won out of a break that went away in the first lap. He said the group wasn’t expected to stay away, but they managed to keep a healthy gap even before hitting the throttle. When he realized he was going good and had yet to put in a big effort, he knew he had a good chance for the win.

At the bell lap the break still had 3 minutes, and ended with Meyer riding across the line alone with 31 seconds in hand over second placed Kemp.

“My first race with the Garmin-Transisions team, and to put a win on the board…I just can’t believe it,” he added.

With their wins it means both National Championship jerseys will be featured on the roads in Europe in 2010. Road World Champion Cadel Evans from the BMC Racing team was happy to hear the news tweeting, “Travis Meyer wins Aussie title-congrats young bloke! Glad to hear the Aussie jersey will be on display overseas…”

Garmin-Tranisistions manager Jonathan Vaughters elated with the news also posting his congratulations on Twitter: “Man, the Meyer brothers are hotter than the Olsen twins! Congrats on the big win, Travis!”

Meyer now looks forward to the season ahead in Europe, as well as the training rides with his big brother Cameron. “It’s great to win the road race considering Cam won the time trial, we’ll be out training together in the National Champion’s kit and that should be nice,” he said.

Meyer has a record five junior world championship wins on the track, and if they bring him along properly, the American team can expect big things from the young talent in the future.
