The much anticipated duel between Taylor Phinney and Jack Bobridge in the individual pursuit at this week’s World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark wasn’t meant to be, with the Australian missing the mark for the gold medal round this time around.

Instead, the match up for gold will be between Phinney and New Zealand’s Jesse Sergent, who clocked the fastest qualifying time at 4:15:988. Phinney was second best with 4:16.102.

Bobridge, who took silver last year behind Phinney, will instead ride for the bronze against Russian Alexander Serov.

Both medal rounds will take place later this evening.
