Amstel Gold winner to take his vows with Patricia Zeevaert

Omega Pharma-Lotto’s Wallonian star, Philippe Gilbert, is set to take the next step in his life on Saturday, and it won’t have anything to do with a bike race. The 28 year old will wed his girlfriend, Patricia Zeevaert in Wallonia on Saturday.

The 21 year old, Zeevaert, detailed Gilbert’s proposal right ahead of his rampant end of the season winning streak last fall: “In September 2009, Philippe asked me for my hand in marriage in the romantic setting of Port Hercule in Monaco. I did not hesitate. I immediately said yes.”

The co-star of Belgian cycling, Gilbert, seems not to suffer from the commitment issues his compatriot Tom Boonen does. Gilbert vows that “Patricia has the right to the marriage of her dreams.”

If Gilbert responds in a similar fashion as he did following his proposal in September of last year, we could be in for another stellar Autumn showing from the 2010 Amstel Gold Race winner.

The couple call Monaco home, but will head to Belgium for the wedding. The marriage will take place in the Chateau de Harze near Liege, in the town of Aywaille, where Gilbert grew up.
