Capecchi, Caruso, Longo Borghini and Salerno to Italian team

LiquigasThe Liquigas team has announced its first signings for the upcoming season, after already have renewed contracts of 18 riders. Eros Capecchi, Damiano Caruso, Paolo Longo Borghini and Cristiano Salerno will join the Italian outfit for next year.

Team manager Roberto Amadio explained why those four were high on the wish list. “We are glad for these first signings that allow us to shore up a competitive team. Capecchi is a comeback – he has great qualities and, thanks to his experience, could be a protagonist in the season,” Amadio said.

Capecchi started his career as a trainee with Liquigas in August of 2005 and was with the team until 2007. He then joined Scott – American Beef, which is now Footon – Servetto.

Caruso started last year as a trainee with LPR Brakes – Farnese Vini, but had to settle for Professional Continental team De Rosa – Stac Plastic for 2010. “Caruso is a young rider who showed his capabilities since his first year as professional,” Amadio said.

Salerno also currently rides for the De Rosa – Stac Plastic squad. “At the end, Salerno showed tenacity and force: what we need to support our captains,” said Amadio.

But Liquigas also wanted some riders who know the ins and outs already. “Longo Borghini guarantees the team an important contribution in terms of experience.” The Italian started his pro career with Team Barloworld – Valsir in 2005. He stayed with the team until 2009, except for a brief contract with Ceramica Flaminia in 2006. This year, he was part of the ISD Neri team.
