Hopes to have greater opportunity to race in Italy in 2011
Preparing for his debut with Team Sky, Italian rider Davide Appollonio has spoken about what he says was a very good experience during his one year with the Cervélo Test Team.
The 21 year old turned professional with the team and had a good first season, winning a stage of the Tour du Limousin and netting second in the GP de Fourmies and the Tour de Vendée.
He said that he felt ‘super good’ with Cervélo. “It was great to race alongside such champions, and to be considered one of them,” he told Tuttobici. “With Cervélo, I rode great races and I had opportunities that I would not have had with an Italian team. I felt considered, I developed and I learned languages. My only regret is having raced very little in Italy.”
Team Sky has interests in Italy and he thus has a better chance of being able to compete there. He will be keen to do well, and Team Sky principal Dave Brailsford believes that he is a rider who is set for good things. “Davide is a great talent and has already shown fantastic promise over the past two years with several race wins,” he said when the rider was signed.
