Italian’s doping suspension expires in a few days

davide rebellinDavide Rebellin has been suspended due to doping for two years, with the inactive state of the athlete running out on April 27, 2011. Several teams had shown interest this winter, with the latest rumor that Spanish professional Continental team Andalucia-Caja Granada will be signing Rebellin.

Italian site Ciclismo-Online reported the news that a contract between Andalucia-Caja Granada and Rebellin is in the making. In February, Rebellin was said to be negotiating with Geox-TMC Transformers and Farnese Vini-Neri Sottoli. The De Rosa-Ceramica Flaminia team had already shown interest in the Italian in October.

Rebellin has ridden for several teams in his career. He started out at MG-Technogym, spent several years with Polti (interrupted by spending 1997 with Française des Jeux) and Liquigas. He joined Gerolsteiner in 2002 and stayed with them until 2008. In 2009, he rode for Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni.

Rebellin was caught for using EPO CERA, which was found in re-tests from samples taken at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Rebellin was forced to return his silver medal, still claiming he was innocent.
