Belgian Greg Van Avermaet of the Silence Lotto team won the second stage of the Tour de l’Ain cycle race on Monday.

The 23-year-old edged ahead of Czech Frantisek Rabon and Maxime Bouet of France in a sprint to the line after the 169km stage from Trevoux to Hauteville.

Sunday’s stage winner Floris Goesinnen of the Netherlands lagged behind in 18th spot.

French rider Christophe Moreau is out of the race after he suffered a fall. The 37-year-old was taken to hospital in Bourg-en-Bresse where he was being treated for a left arm injury.
