Rabobank Continental rider Theo Bos has been charged with an infringement by the International Cycling Union (UCI), and will face a disciplinary hearing to explain his side of the story for the controversial crash he was at the center of at last months Tour of Turkey.

“The UCI has deemed that Theo Bos’s behavior undermined the image, reputation and interests of cycling,” the UCI said in a statement.

The 25-year-old Dutchman is a former world champion and Olympic silver medalist on the track, but converted over to road racing this season. He will be facing a ban that could last up to six months.

After the incident, Bos explained that he instinctively grabbed the jersey of race leader Daryl Impey from team Barloworld in an attempt to avoid crashing into the barriers. He was later disqualified by the race officials.

Impey took the brunt of the crash with injuries to his back and face, forcing him to stay in Turkish hospital more than a week. The only bright side for the South African was that the crash took place within the last kilometer, which meant the officials would award him with the same time as the winner on the day. The ruling allowed him to retain his win in the general classification since he eventually got up and managed to cross the finish line.
