Team Astana has reviewed the report on the Freiburg University Hospital doping scandal involving Team Telecom, which are said to contain damning evidence against their rider Andreas Klöden. The team has decided not to take any action against the rider, because of conflicts in the report.
Astana spokesman Philippe Maertens told the SID press agency, “We have read the report and see no reason to take any action. There is a statement by Patrik Sinkewitz that Klöden was in Freiburg. Andreas said that he was not there. There’s statement against statement. As long as no evidence that he is guilty, he can race.”
The UCI says the case is currently at the national level, and since he has a Swiss racing license, the Swiss would have to take some sort of action before they would get involved.
