Tour de France favorite Alberto Contador won the Spanish national time trial championship today, a 47.8km course between Torrelavega and Cuevas de Altamira.

He clocked a time of 1hr 04min 40sec beating Luis Leon Sanchez by 37 seconds and Ruben Plaza by 65 seconds.

With his performance today, Contador puts an exclamation point on the hard work he has put in to improve his time trialing ability. His bid for a second Tour de France title begins on July 4th in Monaco where he can show off his newly earned national championship jersey.
