Jens Voigt has returned to decent form following his horrifying crash in the Tour de France. In the smaller “Rund um Sebnitz” race in Germany he finished fourth, beaten among others by Robert Förster (Milram).
Voigt was satisfied with his performance. “I am fully healed,” he said according to dpa. “Only the right index finger is still a bit crooked, but I will be able to get that worked out. I don’t need physical therapy for that anymore.”
The short 105-kilometer race was won by René Obst (Team Nutrixxion), ahead of Förster and Matthias Friedemann (PSK Whirlpool).
It was Voigt’s first race back home, after already racing the Tour of Missouri in the USA earlier in the month. It was a quiet comeback but Voigt did finish the race. Considering his 80km/h crash on the descent of stage 16 in this year’s Tour de France, this was a victory in itself.
