Despite not having raced for UCI points since his Tour de France victory, Alberto Contador has won the UCI World ranking. There were no changes in the teams and nations rankings. Astana and Spain lead in those categories, respectively, with only the Giro di Lombardia left to race.

Contador has 527 points, with Alejandro Valverde moving to second, after his Vuelta win (483). Valverde will not be able to get any closer, as he is currently banned from racing in Italy. Andy Schleck dropped to third, with 334 points.

Unfortunately for Edvald Boasson Hagen his four stage wins in the Tour of Britain earned him no ProTour points, so he dropped down from third to fifth.

Cadel Evans made a big leap with his podium finish in the Vuelta. He climbed from ninth to fourth in the battle for the UCI World ranking podium. The biggest jump came by Sammy Sánchez, who moved up from 35th to eighth.

Caisse d’Epargne cut into the comfortable 100+ point lead of Astana in the teams ranking. The Spanish squad is only 52 points behind the troubled Kazakh team.

In the nations ranking the Spaniards used their home tour to further increase the gap over Italy and Australia. There were no changes in the top five.

The final race of the ProTour series is the Giro di Lombardia on October 17.
