Three persons have been arrested for theft following the death of Frank Vandenbroucke in Senegal, including the woman who was with him the night of his passing.
Local police made the arrest on Tuesday, one day after Vandenbroucke’s death. “The woman took one or two cell phones and money,” a police spokesperson said, according to sid. “She claims that when she left in the early morning hours, Vandenbroucke was still alive.”
The arrests were made in Thies, 70km east of Senegal’s capital of Dakar. Vandenbroucke died Monday morning in Saly (70km south of Dakar), where he was on a brief vacation.
Vandenbroucke had a history of difficult moments, suffering from depression and even trying to kill himself in 2007. However, he seemed to have been doing better recently and his mother said he had called her from Africa after his arrival and sounded very cheery.
She asked for an autopsy, which has been performed on Wednesday in Dakar. The results have not been published yet, but there is strong evidence that he died of a pulmonary embolism.
