Mother claims positive caused by cough syrup
The saga of clenbuterol in sport in 2010 continues to mystify and amaze. The latest positive is thankfully not cycling related, but is worth noting if only to demonstrate just how far and wide doping has spread.
A 13 year old swimmer from Gladbeck, Germany tested positive for Clenbuterol on May 9th in his age group championships in Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Following the notification of the positive, express.de reports that the parents pointed to the use of cough syrup as the culprit.
The swimmer was sentenced to a one year suspension and banned from training in swim federation sanctioned practices.
The German Swimming Federation’s antidoping official, Anselm Oehlschlägel said to German news agency, Sport Informations Dienst, “The mother told me that she is fighting for her son, and at the moment, she has organized private training.”
As if the clenbuterol incident wasn’t enough, a 14 year old female diver was suspended for two years following a refusal to submit to an anti-doping test on the 9th of December, 2009.
